ELEMENTARY ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

 

Purpose Statement:

The Elementary School Assistant Principal fosters a culture of learning, cultural responsiveness, and high expectations for every student and every adult. The Assistant Principal supports the building Principal in ensuring academic success of students, managing and supervising school site activities, and representing the school within the district and the community. Championing a vision that attends to the needs of  all students, including historically underrepresented groups, the Assistant Principal supports all elements of the academic program, co-curricular program, physical plant management, and school community relationships. Along with the Principal, they ensure that student learning through the lens of equity and cultural relevance, drives all decisions and aligns with the vision of the District.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; administering first aid; applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; using pertinent software applications.

KNOWLEDGE is required to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: district philosophy, curriculum, policies and procedures; health standards and hazards; safety practices and procedures; stages of child development; and understanding best practice supervisory principles/techniques

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational policies to achieve organizational objectives; directing other persons within a department, large work unit, and/or across several small work units; and helping to direct the use of budgeted funds within a work unit. Utilization of significant resources from other work units is routinely required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to significantly impact the Organization’s services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing.  The job is performed under a generally hazard-free environment.

Experience

A minimum of three (3) years teaching experience in an elementary school setting. Job related experience with an increase in level of responsibility is desired.

Education

Master’s Degree in a job-related area.
