Sign Language Interpreter
Duties and Responsibilities
- Interpret for deaf/hard of hearing student(s)
- Interpret at extra-curricular activities and/or school related meetings as requested
- Attend relevant staff meetings and in-services as directed
- Work with student on individualized programs as directed by the teacher.
- Under the direction of the teacher, will develop materials for individualized programs as needed
- Assists in behavior management of students
- Assist with recess/lunch duty and/or bus duty as assigned to monitor student behavior and/or facilitate social skills
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Degree in Sign Language Interpreting
- National certification from RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) or 3.5 score on the EIPA
- State License
- Demonstrated ability to interpret the spoken word to sign language and sign language to the spoken word
- Communicate clearly and concisely, orally, manually and in writing
- Prior educational interpreting experience
- Prior experience in working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder preferred
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the school team.
