Description | Transportation Dispatch/ Administrative Assistant
8.0 Hours per day, year round position
Assignment, hours and time worked are subject to change based on program/staffing needs.

Overview The purpose of the Transportation Dispatch is to establish bus routes and stops; resolving district transportation issues; arranging transportation for special events; and maintaining and operating a variety of computer software programs in support of the safe and efficent operation of the District's student transportation needs.
This job reports to the Transportation Supervisor
Essential Functions
- Advises drivers concerning issues they encounter on bus routes (e.g. accidents, road conditions, weather, student issues, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring student safety following established procedures, regulations, and laws .
- Communicates information and instructions to drivers and others (e.g. schedules, route changes, road conditions, accidents, emergencies, etc.) for the purpose of advising drivers on a variety of situations that may impact scheduled transportation services.
- Compiles a variety of data (e.g. incident reports, inspections, student count, passenger misconduct, mileage, etc.) for the purpose of developing formal reports; conveying information, and complying with mandated
- Coordinates scheduling of district vehicles (e.g. regular routes, field trips, athletic trips, athletic events, meetings, etc.) for the purpose of meeting overall transportation
- Develops schedules (e.g. routes, workload, special trips, driver training, etc.) for the purpose of determining driver and equipment
- Evaluates routes (e.g. bus stops, clock schedules, etc.) for the purpose of determining bus routes in conformance with school policies while complying with mandated
- Implements route additions and changes (e.g. finds new development and map information, etc.) for the purpose of keeping routes and data up-to-date.
- Informs school personnel, parents, etc. of practices and incidents (e.g. rules, regulations, laws,procedures, etc.) for the purpose of providing information for follow-up action and/or proper
- Inputs data into computerized transportation system (e.g. street names, speed limits, stops, hazards, walking boundaries, left and right turn directions, student data, new and changed school boundary information, ) for the purpose of creating route maps.
- Maintains data (e.g. training records, school and employee data, driver and bus mechanic schedules, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accurate and complete information is
- Oversees transportation operations in the absense of Supervisor for the purpose of maintaining the Safe and Efficient functioning of the work unit.
- Participates in a variety of activities (e.g. meetings, training, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform
- Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions (e.g. boundary changes, personnel requirements, etc) for the purpose of providing direction and/or making decisions that enhance student transportation
- Resolves schedule problems (e.g. driver absences, out-of-service vehicles, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring all routes are covered.Responds to inquiries from students, parents, and staff (e.g. stop locations, schedule, state regulated policies, ) for the purpose of providing the necessary information regarding busing issues.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Oregon Comercial Drivers License class B or higher). Or able to obtain within 90 days.
- Possesion of a valid Oregon School Bus Drivers Certificate. Or able to obtain within 90 days.
- Must be trained to recognize drug and alcohol impairment so reasonable suspicion testing can be performed by State certified laboratory. Or have training completed with in 6 months.
- Must have a high school or GED certificate.
- Two years of Fleet supervision of truck or bus fleet recommended.
- Ability to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
- Able to sucessfuly participate in DOT Alcohol and Drug Testing program.
- Able to hold and maintain First Aid/CPR Card within the first 90 days.

Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve District and Department objectives; directing other persons within a small work unit; and operating within a defined budget. Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 100% sitting, % walking, and % standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.
