TEACHER ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT: ELEMENTARY ELD/STUDENT SUPPORT

 

The job of Teacher on Special Assignment: Student Support is done for the purpose/s of supporting student behavior management, supervision and core academics with emphasis in English language development and Talented and Gifted. This position supports academically at-risk students using district approved assessments, materials, and strategies.

 

 Essential Functions

  • Assists The Principal in the management of the student behavior system for the purpose of enforcing school, district and state policy and maintaining safety and efficiency of school operations.

 

  • Communicates with parents and teachers for the purpose of reporting student progress aligned with the building

 

  • Coordinates professional development for staff for the purpose of establishing a strong connection to the school-day classroom lessons.

 

  • Develop and Implements individual student skill-building plans based on district approved assessments, materials, strategies, and classroom lessons for the purpose of improving student achievement.

 

  • Develops Behavior Plans and administers corrective measures for inappropriate behaviors for the purpose of improving student conduct.

 

  • Facilitates communication on behavioral issues between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.

 

  • Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of prevention and compliance; assisting students in modifying behavior; and developing successful interpersonal skills.

 

  • Monitors the Building-wide Student Behavior System to include tracking behavioral referrals and their outcomes for the purpose of maintaining an effective behavior system.

 

  • Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and for continued professional growth.

 

  • Provides Direct Instruction in academics both during the school day and in the extended day program for the purpose of improving academic achievement of at-risk students.

 

  • Supervises the after school instructional and English language literacy program (e.g. overall operation as well as paraprofessional staff and tutors) for the purpose of improving the academic performance of at-risk students.

 

  • Supervises the Talented and Gifted program for the purpose of improving academic performance.

 

  • Supports principal for the purpose of providing assistance with administrative functions including general building supervision and helping teachers utilize classroom practices that support positive student behavior.

 

  • Compiles data from a variety of sources for the purpose of evaluating educational programs and services.

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: analyzing assessment data; preparing and maintaining accurate records; using pertinent software applications; and communicating effectively with adults and students

.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: research based literacy intervention strategies; competency base education; age appropraite student management techniques

 

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; working with detailed information/data; working with frequent interruptions; providing staff development as it relates to literacy-math; implementing and applying age appropriate student management techniques; being fair and consistent with a strong sense of empathy; and interpreting and complying with laws, rules, policies and trends regarding education and instruction.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to effect the Organization’s services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 20% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under some hazardous conditions and in a clean atmosphere.
