TECHNOLOGY I – Support, Printer Support

 

Purpose Statement:

The job of this Technology Support Specialist is done for the purpose/s of supporting the job of printing, technology, asset management, student technology access and related software administration.  A primary purpose of this position is to provide print materials needed by district personnel for instruction, conferences, special events, meetings and operations; ensuring the safe and efficient operation of print shop equipment; and delivering completed materials within established timelines.

 

This job reports to Technology Director

 

Essential Functions

  • Provides effective, timely, and courteous customer service support to district staff regarding their printing and technology needs.
  • Inspects printed jobs for completing jobs within requested specifications, quality standards and quantity requirements.
  • Maintains a variety of files and records (e.g. print orders, department billing files, maintenance agreements, etc.) for providing complete and accurate documentation and audit trail. Maintain confidentiality regarding materials and information they access. 
  • Maintains printing machines, equipment, tools and work areas (e.g. daily and weekly cleaning, load supplies, clear paper jams, etc.) for ensuring a safe working environment and the availability of items within a specific time frame.
  • Monitors supply inventory for ensuring that required materials are available.
  • Operates a variety of equipment (e.g. industrial printers, drill, binder, laminator, collating machine, etc.) for ensuring availability of printed materials as required.
  • Prepares printing job/s (e.g. printing, binding, collating, etc.) for the purpose of packaging jobs for distribution.
  • Prints all standard forms, maintains the print shop catalogue and other documents (e.g. classroom materials, announcements, letterhead, fliers, pamphlets, etc.) for providing materials needed by school personnel for instruction, conferences, special events and meetings.
  • Processes a variety of documents and/or materials (e.g. print orders, billings, supply orders, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of documents and material and ensuring an up-to-date reference trail.
  • Responds to inquiries for providing requested information and/or referring to appropriate resources.
  • Supports as necessary, the inventory of assets to include individual user devices, textbooks and other inventoried technology devices, including assessing, tracking and collecting user fees.
  • Assists with maintenance of individual user device hardware for determining appropriate actions to maintain devices.
  • Assists with standard setups for protecting district network security and to support user efficiency.
  • Assists with computer program maintenance for some software relating to asset management and user support.
  • Attends meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Coordinates with other staff for completing projects/work orders efficiently.
  • Assist in the procurement of equipment, supplies and materials for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and completing jobs efficiently.
  • Supports department staff in implementation of computer applications for the purpose of automating and streamlining applications and processes.
  • Assists, as necessary, in transporting a variety of items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for providing materials at job site or transporting equipment for repair.



Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating equipment used in technology; planning and managing workload requirements; preparing and maintaining accurate records; effective and efficient time management, using pertinent software applications; analyzing and defining client equipment and software issues for multiple desktop operating systems; communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: Principles and practices of computers, application use and techniques with software such as Microsoft Office; Asset Management Software (i.e., Follett’s Destiny) and other software for individual personal computer users, analysis and troubleshooting techniques.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work positively and effectively with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences; training clients in the operation of microcomputer systems; communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; adapting to changing work priorities; and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the Organization’s services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.   Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

1-3 years’ experience assessing issues with personal computing devices, printers and making recommendations for repair or replacement.

Demonstrated ability to work in computer software/hardware user support for a wide variety of clients, including youth.

 

Associate’s degree or Bachelor's  degree in  business, computer technology, information systems or related field. Additional years’ experience or certifications may be substituted for education.
