COLLEGE AND CAREER PROGRAM Coordinator
SUMMARY
Plans and directs the development, implementation and evaluation of college and career readiness programs and services. Assists in the implementation and coordination of resources related to Career Technical Education (CTE), dropout prevention and college readiness. Facilitates the planning, organization, and/or presentation of professional development and expansion of CTE programs. Assists and supports school and district efforts to improve student outcomes related to college and career readiness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Essential functions may include__but are not limited to__the following:
- Implements the career development program. Develops goals, objectives, work plans, and timelines with administrative supervision. Coordinates activities between the assigned school and the business and government communities.
- Plans and recommends program improvements, staff training, and facility and equipment needs.
- Acts as a liaison between administrators, teachers, university and government agency staffs, the business community, parents and the public in coordination of the career and college readiness program.
- Develops informational and training materials about the program for school and district staffs, business, government, students, parents, public and media at the local level. Provides presentations and training to these audiences.
- Provides students and parents with post-secondary information and guidance regarding careers, college participation, and scholarship opportunities.
- Communicates with and guides students regarding goals after high school.
- Selects and orders career materials and college information publications; maintains reference materials in an easily accessed filing system.
- As directed by the assigned supervisor, coordinates career activities and develops contacts with area businesses and government agencies; recruits business and government participation.
- Contact topics include work experience opportunities and verification of hours and related content standards for high school credit.
- Arranges occupational or career field trips.
- Coordinates vocational assessments and reviews assessment results. Provides direction in the use of the vocational assessment results.
- May be responsible for setting up, maintaining, and updating student career portfolios.
- Works with school employees to ensure a strong focus on academic achievement and the completion of high school.
- Coordinates professional development for district staff such as college-going culture specifics and support for students and families in academic preparation, college application, and locating financial aid for post-secondary education and training.
- Trains and guides students and staff members regarding the use of relevant information systems.
- Works with school leadership and advising teachers toward the development and delivery of curriculum for advisory periods (such as PLP, college applications, graduation requirements, capstone activities).
- Maintains database of participating students, businesses and government agencies. Performs analysis to assists in measuring the success of the program
- Coordinates activities of volunteers involved in career development.
- Serves on state or local career development and school committees as assigned by the supervisor.
- Assists in the development of program evaluation or year-end reports.
- Coordinates grant activities from various sources for alignment with the goals of the college and career readiness program. May assist with grant writing.
- Maintains a personal standard of regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Performs related duties consistent with the job description and assignment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of
- The principles and practices of planning, needs assessment, problem solving, group process, and post-secondary opportunities for students.
- The principles and practices of organization and coordination of school and community programs, activities, and facilities.
- Career-related educational standards.
- Educational programs and community resources, such as Career Information System and
- Current career options and alternatives.
- The use of the student information systems (PowerSchool, Naviance).
- Office procedures and practices.
Ability to
- Work independently, yet within a team.
- Maintain cooperative relations with school staff, students, parents, and the business and government communities.
- Maintain accurate program records and generate reports using information systems, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
- Recruit, encourage, and promote business and government partnerships.
- Recruit and train volunteers.
- Assess and evaluate school needs and community resources and develop and implement programs to meet these needs.
- Analyze problems and develop solutions.
- Plan and organize work to meet established deadlines.
- Make student contact during school hours the top priority. Work effectively with high-school-age students in large and small group settings and individually.
- Assist others in career and educational program problem solving.
- Develop and deliver public presentations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Maintain accurate records for program, personnel and budget.
- Troubleshoot computer problems and utilize computer application skills
Experience and Training
Our district seeks a combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.
Experience - The position requires experience in positions involving the organization or coordination of activities, programs, or individuals.
Training - This position requires a bachelor’s degree or higher, plus business experience in a related field.
Licensure - Licensed through TSPC required with endorsements in business or related field preferred.
Special Requirements
- May require possession of First-Aid certification.
Work Environment
- Climate-controlled office/ classroom setting with exposure to minimal to high noise intensity levels depending on work location.
- Moderate to high level of contact with district personnel and outside agencies/community.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent reaching, handling, fingering, talking and hearing.
- Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment
- Stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period.
- Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
- Vision: Frequent near acuity; occasional far acuity. Vision to read printed materials, computer screens and/or other monitoring devices.
- Strength: Sedentary/Light. Exert force to 20 pounds occasionally, or a negligible amount of force frequently, to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
